I feel obligated to tell you that a potential blockbuster storm is in the works for the traditional Nor’Easter areas – interior and north of us – later this week. We could get a couple of inches of snow from it. It seems like a mighty complex system, so I’m not going to speculate much further.

From my father, jumpstarting the hype machine:
“Here we go again. NWS says ALL OUT BLIZZARD for Thursday into Friday with 1-2-feet for Orange County. Bastardi has one model that puts the bulls-eye between Washington and Baltimore with colder temps than NY and heavier wind, but not as much snow. His analog years are 1969 (Lindsey storm), 1958 and 1888 (the white Hurricane with Warwick measuring 42″). Be ready.”

Let the hype begin! Just to be clear – this is a big deal Philly and north and west. This will be a wind maker in Baltimore, with some snow, but I think this is a much bigger deal for Goshen then Elkridge.

Here’s your latest snow map. So Genelle, your weekend is in jeopardy. Sheesh.

Some predictions:
Somewhere (probably in NY) will see over 40 inches of snow between now and Saturday.
Somewhere in Delmarva will see sustained winds over 50 mph with gusts over 65 mph between now and Saturday.
Do you think I might have trouble getting to the Boland wedding outside of Philly?
There’s a Boland wedding is there? Good for him.
You might potentially have a problem, yes. Wait until tomorrow, this is a complicated system and the hype machine doesn’t crank up on complicated systems until later in the game. There are a lot of ways this forecast could change – it’s way over my head as a amateur forecaster. It involves multiple piles of energy and the confluence of different branches of the jet stream blah blah, it’s complicated.
If Boland’s wedding and my wedding are both impacted by a blizzard the same year…that’d be something. I always liked him.
Crap!!! I’m flying to Vancouver on Thursday night!!!!!
Once again, I am going somewhere via locomotive this weekend and shall remain unaffected.
Must be nice!
Btw, this post totally didn’t show up in my GoogleReader feed! What’s up with that? Did you make your site invisible to robot/spider detection or something?
So, yes, there is a Boland wedding in NJ this weekend just past Philly I believe. I thought I had told you that I had made a mental bet to see which one of you was going to go first due to posts that were appearing on Facebook. You obviously won!
I’m going to this wedding though darn it, even if I have to drive through a blizzard. It may however, affect what I wear!
Reading that linked post caused a flurry of profanities to flow from my mouth. Laguardia Airport + wind is never a good combo.
Hahaha… what’s with those 1950s-era maps, like, mimeographed straight out of someone’s old, borrowed/weatherworn Earth Science Reference Tables?
It will “bomb out over NYC” — damn, that’s risky language to use, post-9/11!
I concur, Bess. That kind of language is highly inappropriate!
Is all this rain gonna start bombing out into snow over the NYC any time soon? If not, I think it’s safe to say we’ve won the war on terror.
Highest wind gust in MD – 63 mph (into the 90s in NH, 100+ on the mountains).
Snowfall in NY? Hunter Mountain picked up 41″. Non mountain snow was Kiamesha Lake at 38″. I dunno, the prediction did alright.
