I’ve been watching Earl intently, even intensely over the last few days. My previous post is being borne out. I, like everyone else now, think it’s going to be very close to Hatteras, then close again to Cape Cod. It could make landfall on both, running amok up the east coast in between. I don’t think there’s much in store for here in MD, but on the beaches, look out.
And Steve’s friend’s wedding on Block Island…just hope they don’t evacuate. Looks like it’ll pass by Friday night – Saturday should be a nice day…let’s hope it’s not a nice day to sweep chunks of roof off the road.

It looks awesome. It can be 145 mph at the next advisory. I didn’t expect that sort of regrouping.
I still don’t know how close to the outer banks this is going to get.
Can you please provide a local NYC forecast? Thx.
Looks like it’s going to pass directly over Nantucket with hurricane force winds as far west as Block Island. Could be bad Friday after 11:00am. NYC will see gusts to 60 mph and a couple of strong thunderstorms Friday into the evening. The good news is at 20-25mph forward motion, Earle will be gone before it can create devastating damage.
I’m OK on the Nantucket prediction (though I think they’re to the west slightly), and I think that Block Island might see a gust or two to hurricane force, but I’m gonna go with closer to 50-60 mph for Block Island. NYC is probably 35 gusting to 50 or so.
Keep in mind, you mention the forward velocity…that amplifies the wind on the eastern half of the storm – it dampens the wind on the western half which is blowing opposite the direction of motion.
I’ve never been so excited about watching a storm — especially after you told me that sometimes storms like this will “drop down an occasional little tornado” or however you put it!
