I watch 24 a day late, as it is preempted by Bible study on Mondays. If you are in a similar situation, don’t keep reading, because I’m going to write about the episode, in itemized list format.
1) Has anyone seen the trailor for “The Sentinal”? Is Keifer’s character named Jack Bauer in that movie? He should be. Why make believe he’s someone else, I will go to the theater to see Jack Bauer improvise torture chambers MacGyver style. To say that I also like the way he talks is a vast understatement.
2) Which was a less believeable commercial break development: the 4 minutes it took to enforce Marshall Law on 70% of LA, or the 4 minutes it took for Jack to assemble a tact team and fly to the natural gas plant? Based on my recent dealing with the goverment, I’d have to say the Marshall Law declaration is less realistic; I think it would take them 6-8 weeks.
3) Though, the tact team members, other than Jack and Curtis of course, all had to create a living will prior to departure. Not since Star Trek have non-standard away team members been in more peril. In Star Trek, all one needs to do is play the “one of these things is not like the other” game to figure out who the alien blob will zap. In 24, anyone who has been on for less than 4 episodes will get whacked.
4) Is anyone else impressed with the terrorist’s contingency plan here? They can’t hit Moscow, but luckily they have already hired a spy to acquire plant schematics. They are also quite adept at jury-rigging remote detonation devices. Incidentally, I hope you realize how uncreative syn(thetic) tox(in) is as a name for nerve gas. By the way, I’d like to think that if terrorists tried to induce me to release nerve gas into my pipelines, and I was the only one who could do it, I’d just take one for the team. I’d really like to think that.
5) I love the new sexual harrassment lady, and Chloe’s face was priceless. Just wait until Jack puts her in a choke hold, now that’ll be harrassment.
6) How many guards has Jack beaten up this seasons? He beat up three this episode alone, and it never bothers anyone when he does it. That’s just Jack being Jack, they’re all terrified of him, and rightfully so. Let’s see, he beat up the two guards for Aubrey, who he had choked previously, but she forgave him very quickly which is rather disturbing. I think that being a ninja spy is an aphrodisiac. He knocked out the US Marshall as well. Previously he choked his daughter’s boyfriend (who is somehow a terrorist himself probably) and knocked out Curtis. I’m sure there are more. Everyone’s OK with this however. He’s showing no ill effects from those cracked ribs in hour one or two, a real trooper that Jack Bauer.
